Mobile Websites ~ do I really need one?

Mobile Websites ~ do I really need one?

There are more than 13.9 million mobile internet users across the UK and over 5000 different mobile screen sizes and operating systems.

Morgan Stanley Research estimates sales of smartphones will exceed those of PCs in 2012!

That’s an amazing statistic which shows the future of surfing the web. With all the capabilities of smartphones we now have a personal computer that you can carry around in your pocket. The future is here and we all have to keep up. That’s why mobile websites are becoming much more of a priority in the 21st century. With more and more potential customers now using their mobile phones to search and shop online we have to be able to balance the experience for the user.

Computer monitors are getting bigger and come with a much larger screen resolution. This makes it easier to use the space onscreen to sell as much of your service as possible. That’s great! But when your website needs to be viewed on a smaller screen in the palm of your hand you make it a potential banana skin with your clients. Too many times have we pressed the wrong button that’s almost too small to see with the naked eye trying to get to the place you want to go. The frustration builds and all of a sudden you have lost a customer.

So, we turn to mobile versions of your website instead to make things easier. When someone inputs the address of your site they will be met with a streamlined, simpler version of the website with larger buttons, easier navigation and watered down content that’s much easier to take in when you’re on the move. The result is a greater experience for the user and plenty of great feedback which promotes further sales and return business. User experience has always been a high priority for business websites and the easier it is to get to what you want means the more likely a sale can be made.

Of course you could opt for an app to be made for your site but this would mean being limited to only iPhones or Android smartphones. They would have to be downloaded first too and that means extra marketing to make sure people are aware of your app. And they cost more more than a mobile website!
